by the hospital (usually between 4 - 7pm). This is to confirm your arrival time, fasting time, and any
out of pocket expenses payable on admission.
If you haven't heard from the Hospital by 7 pm and you are concerned please contact the Admissions
Department of the relevant hospital.

-
In part, yes. However, there may still be out-of-pocket costs.
Note the Anaesthetist will send a separate invoice.
-
The majority of hand surgery procedures are performed as day-only surgery, meaning you can return home the same day.
Where appropriate, this approach allows for:
Faster recovery in the comfort of your own home
Reduced disruption to your routine
Lower risk of hospital-related complications
Some procedures, however, are better managed with a short overnight stay. See examples.
Many procedures that traditionally required hospital admission—such as wrist fracture fixation - are now sometimes performed as same-day procedures in carefully selected patients.
The decision depends on:
Your overall health
The complexity of the procedure
Pain management requirements
Type of anaesthetic
Your home support (someone to assist you overnight)
Our priority is always safety, comfort, and achieving the best possible outcome.
-
Frequently Performed Day Procedures:
Carpal tunnel release
Trigger finger release
De Quervain’s tendon release
Ganglion cyst removal (wrist or finger)
Dupuytren’s surgery – Percutaneous Fasciotomy
Mucous cyst excision (finger)
Nail bed repair
Removal of foreign bodies
Excision of soft tissue lumps (e.g. lipomas, giant cell tumours)
Extensor tendon repair
Fixation of minor fractures
Wrist arthroscopy
-
Some operations are more complex or require closer monitoring after surgery or require more significant pain relief..
These May Include:
Distal radius fracture fixation (wrist fractures)
Complex or multiple hand fractures
Scaphoid surgery
Thumb base joint (CMC) arthroplasty
Wrist fusion or reconstructive procedures
Ulnar or Radial Osteotomy
Flexor tendon repairs (particularly complex injuries)

An overnight stay allows for elevation, pain control, and early monitoring of circulation and swelling.
