About Emilie Myers

Emilie graduated from The University of Sydney in 1996 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy).
She represented in University sports including swimming, diving and athletics. 
She has 29 years experience as a public and private Hand Physiotherapist and has volunteered extensively throughout her career. 
She has been a full member of the Australian Hand Therapy Association since 2005.  Emilie treats adult and paediatric hand and wrist conditions, and post operative cases.
She also provides the ONERO (TM) bone strengthening programme in Rose bay and offers sport specific fitness training for sailors and foilers of all ages.

ONERO

Emilie is  licenced to provide the Onero programme. This is an evidence based exercise programme, designed to improve bone and muscle health, increase bone density, and reduce fracture risk  https://onero.academy/osteoporosis-exercises/ . Onero is a specific sequence of compound resistance exercises. It has been shown to stimulate bone growth, enhance overall strength, power and well being. It has been published internationally and is endorced by health professionlas worldwide.

The Initial Physiotherapy, Onero, Lifestyle and Longevity assessment involves a full health review, BMD and DXA scan analysis, and a comprehensive lifestyle review. A detailed report is provided with actionable recommendations to optimise your life.

Weekly group Onero training classes are only available after the Initial Physiotherapy and Onero assessment with Emilie.

Small group (max 8)  Onero classes (45 min) run on: Monday mornings 7:20am 8:15am and 9:15am; Thursday’s at 740am and 8:30am. 

Emilie provides the assessment and classes in her practice: SOS Strong Physiotherapy, Rose Bay, Level 2, within Woollahra Sailing Club, 2 Vickery Ave, Rose Bay. 

Parking is available near the club and tennis courts. Be aware that the renovation of Club Rose Bay DIning nearby is causing parking congestion.

Volunteering:
Emilie volunteered in India on two month long ActionAid & Sydney University trips.
At the Paralympic Games in Sydney in 2000, Emilie volunteered with the Sailing teams, as well as with Sailors with disABILITIES over the next 2 years.
She has volunteered in Fiji on more than 26 trips with Orthopaedic Outreach since 2005.
Emilie co-ordinates all aspects of the 12 member strong Australian Orthopaedic Outreach Hand surgical , anaesthetic, registrar, nursing, biomedical engineering and allied health team who volunteer in Fiji.
This includes her husband, hand surgeon, Stuart Myers, and their two children, who have always join every trip. 
From 2013 the children established multiple Fijian hospital and school libraries with the support of Woollahra Library. Since 2017, they have taught sailing and windsurfing in both Vuda Marina and Suva  annually to hundreds of Fijian children. Their MyHand Sailing Outreach programme, runs in association with Fiji Yachting and the Uto ni Yalo Trust.
As the children undertake the Sailing programme, Emilie teaches and treats hand trauma cases in Fijian hospitals. She provides teaching workshops on the trauma management of tendon, nerve and fractures, upper limb splinting and plastering skills in hospitals and at the Fiji National University, Suva.
Emilie regularly supervises 4th year Australian Physiotherapy students on their Fiji elective placements.

In Australia, Emilie volunteers on the following three boards as :

President of the Australian Wingfoil Racing Class Association, affilliated with Australian Sailing.

Foil Class representative for Woollahra Sailing Club.

Orthopaedic Outreach DIrector, representing Allied Health Governance and Risk and reviews Programmes.

Career:
Emilie worked in a variety of NSW Hospitals, including Sydney Children’s Hospital, while sailing with sailors with disABILITIES in and offshore racing.
Her sailing interest took her to the Isle of Wight as a Physiotherapist, 2001-2002 where after work she sailed and raced with British Paralympic sailors.
She  worked all winter as a ski instructor in Kitzbuhel and St Anton, Austria.
Emilie then trained in the Royal North Shore Hospital Hand Unit and become the Senior Hand Physiotherapist, at Prince of Wales Hospital for 7 years.
In this time, she managed a busy adult caseload including quadriplegics and complex paediatrics, undertook research and presented papers at national and international conferences.
She has subsequently worked part time in her own, and various other Private Physiotherapy practices in Sydney.

Emilie and her family are Woollahra Sailing Club based wing foilers who compete nationally and internationally.
In her free time,  Emilie surfs, ocean swims & skis with her family and friends,  and tries to speak better German.
